Tips for Parents
The most important influence in your child's life is you. As a parent or caregiver, your child's attitudes toward books and reading will be influenced by you. By reading yourself and by reading aloud to your child from an early age, you set the example that reading is important and a skill worth developing.
We are fortunate in Lower Dauphin to have reading specialists assigned to each building, as well as having three district-wide reading specialists to work with teachers and students on literacy activities. In addition, the community group Lower Dauphin Communities That Care mails books to preschoolers on their birthday and they operate a bookmobile that travels through the district lending books at no cost to preschoolers.
