We agree that the success of a child’s progress in school is dependent on the “team’s” ability to support each other.  This team consists of the parent/guardian, the child, and the teachers.  The team members agree to carry out the following roles:

 

HOME

 

PARENT/GUARDIAN:

To relay the message that reading is important by:

  • Spending 15 minutes a night listening to my child read and also reading to my child
  • Going over my child’s school folder and assignments with him/her each night
  • Setting up a quiet place for my child to read and study
  • Encouraging my child’s efforts towards learning to read

To regularly communicate with my child’s classroom teacher and Title I Reading Center teacher regarding his/her reading progress by:

  • Sending notes in my child’s folder or through e-mail; also through phone calls
  • Attending Open House and parent conferences
  • Attending workshops offered by the school

To assist my child in preparing for the school day by:

  • Making sure my child is well rested and has a well-balanced breakfast each day
  • Making sure my child is at school on time unless sick
  • Making sure my child is at school with his/her assignments and materials

 

STUDENT:

To come to school prepared for the day by:

  • Making sure I get enough sleep each night and eating a healthy breakfast every morning
  • Coming to school on time unless I’m sick with all my assignments and materials that I need

To read each night for at least 15 minutes with an adult

 

 

SCHOOL

 

TEACHERS:

Provide a safe, positive atmosphere conducive to learning by:

  • Being aware of the child’s individual needs
  • Providing appropriate educational activities that meet the child’s needs
  • Encouraging the child’s efforts towards learning to read

To regularly communicate with the child’s parents/guardians regarding his/her reading progress by:

  • Sending notes in the child’s folder, through e-mail, or by phone calls
  • Providing an Open House
  • Setting up individual conferences

To assist parents with at-home practice with reading by:

  • Providing workshop(s) to offer reading activities and strategies to use at home
  • Providing booklists for appropriate reading material
  • Inviting parents to observe classes to see how various strategies are used

 

STUDENT:

To participate in class by:

  • Following the character traits taught at my school
  • Trying my best and asking for help when I need it
  • Paying attention and doing my work
